2025年早々、Kush JonesとOyubiのコラボレーションEPが、TREKKIE TRAXからリリースされるというビッグニュースが舞い込んだ。2023年、台湾での共演で意気投合したのがきっかけで、約1年間をかけ完成したのが今作「Sin Jyuk Guen EP」だ。
Kush Jonesは生まれ育ったブロンクスに拠点を置くプロデューサーで、 シカゴハウスやジューク/フットワーク、ジャージークラブやボルチモアクラブといったアメリカのエレクトロニックミュージックを、次のフェイズへと更新し、世界中で高く評価されている。
学生時代、放課後のプログラムで音楽制作を学びはじめ、周りが一般的なヒップホップのトラック作りを進める中、Kushはさらに幅広いサウンドを追求し始める。ニューヨークのダンス・サブカルチャー“ライトフィート”のバトルを観に行ったことがきっかけで、シカゴフットワークやジャージークラブなど、アメリカ各地のダンスミュージックと出会うことになる。サンプリングはKushのキャリアの根底にあり、これらのジャンルが古い楽曲を新しいスタイルに変換していることに対して更に関心を持ったKushは、独自のサウンドを確立し、自身や仲間のオリジナルトラックをプレイするようになり、やがてLAを拠点とするJuke Bounce Workクルーの一員になる。
深いアメリカ音楽感とモダンなエレクトロニクス、自在なビートコントロールが融合したセットはドラマティックで、驚きとわくわくに満ちたミュージックジャーニーが堪能できる。
2022年の1stミニアルバム「Earnin It」が、Ben UFOやObjektといったトップクラスにもサポートされ、その才能が世界から注目されるOyubiは、近年もコンスタントにリリースを重ねながら、DJ PAYPALやFrenquencyとの共演、フランスmb studioの主催Toma Kamiの招聘などグローバルな動きを活発にしている。予測できないイマジネーションと緻密なビートメイクは、意気投合したことも頷けるKush Jonesとの、記憶にも記録にも残るだろう極上のセッションを期待させてくれる。
11月に12周年を迎えたTREKKIE TRAX、そのアニバーサリーパーティにはNight Slugsの主催L-VIS 1990のほか、レーベルをクレジットする錚々たる国内勢のラインナップや、冒険的で秀逸なリリースの数々、さらに、2024年にはTommy Holohan、Hodge、Big Dope P、Jialing、Neffa-Tといった音楽感を交差させるアーティストの招聘など、このレーベルの国内外への影響力の大きさをまざまざと見せつけられた。今回も、TREKKIE TRAXの核となるSeimei、andrew、Carpainterの揃っての出演が決まった。さらに、ボルチモアクラブ、ゲットーハウスを得意とするニューエラな才能neneeedyが加勢する。

Big news has arrived early in 2025, Kush Jones and Oyubi will be releasing a collaborative EP, 「Sin Jyuk Guen EP」, through TREKKIE TRAX. This project, born from their connection during a performance in Taiwan in 2023, took about a year to complete.
Kush Jones, a producer based in his hometown of the Bronx, has earned worldwide acclaim for advancing American electronic music genres like Chicago house, juke/footwork, Jersey club, and Baltimore club into a new phase. His journey into music began during an after-school programme in his student days, where he started learning music production. While others around him focused on creating standard hip-hop tracks, Kush ventured into exploring a broader range of sounds. A pivotal moment came when he attended a “Light Feet” dance battle, a part of New York’s dance subculture, which introduced him to diverse American dance music genres, including Chicago footwork and Jersey club. Sampling became the foundation of his career, as he became captivated by how these genres transformed older tracks into entirely new styles. This led him to establish his unique sound, perform original tracks by himself and his peers, and eventually join the LA-based Juke Bounce Work crew. His sets deliver a dramatic, surprising, and thrilling musical journey, blending deep-rooted American music traditions with modern electronics and dynamic beat control.
Oyubi, whose 2022 debut mini-album 「Earnin It」 garnered support from top-tier artists like Ben UFO and Objekt, continues to draw global attention for his talent. In recent years, he has consistently released new works while also performing alongside international names like DJ PAYPAL and Frenquency. Moreover, he has expanded his global presence by working with Toma Kami, the head of France’s mb studio. With his unpredictable imagination and meticulous beat-making, Oyubi’s collaboration with Kush Jones promises to be a remarkable session that will remain in both memory and history.
TREKKIE TRAX celebrated its 12th anniversary in November, hosting a spectacular party featuring Night Slugs co-founder L-VIS 1990, alongside a stellar lineup of domestic talent affiliated with the label. With their bold and outstanding releases, TREKKIE TRAX has demonstrated its significant influence both domestically and internationally. The label’s momentum carries into 2024 with plans to invite artists like Tommy Holohan, Hodge, Big Dope P, Jialing, and Neffa-T, whose musical sensibilities intersect with the label’s adventurous spirit. This year’s event will also see performances from TREKKIE TRAX’s core members—Seimei, andrew, and Carpainter—as well as neneeedy, a rising star known for their expertise in Baltimore club and ghetto house.
