This is a story of friendship and music. In 2009, the kora player Ballaké Sissoko and the cellist Vincent Segal decided to make an album that would capture the musical conversations they had been weaving together over the years. Their music has graced prestigious concert halls such as the Barbican in London and the Fundação Gulbenkian in Lisbon. Two souls, united by a sense of freedom and momentum that seem to melt and find echoes of Manding, Baroque, Brazilian and Gypsy in each other. This freedom is the sound of two musicians who are masters of their own instrument, artistry and tradition, who are able to transcend all that to concentrate on every breath, every sound, their own dialogue and to put all their attention onto the beauty of the moment.

Over the years, Faccini, has often made of his songwriting, a passion for pursuing the kind of cross-cultural dialogues that have long been heard on Mediterranean shores throughout the centuries, bridging southern Europe with the Near East and Africa. The cyclical, Folk-like, call and response forms in his songs asks us, what are we going to do with the rest of our time in the world, what are we going to do with the rest of the world?

KYOTOPHONIEは、KYOTOGRAPHIE京都国際写真祭の精神に基づき、新たに立ち上げた国際的なボーダレスミュージックフェスティバルです。 ワールドミュージック・現代音楽・クラシック・電子音楽・ストリートミュージック… 様々なジャンルを超え、国境も超えた素晴らしい音楽のライブ演奏を京都の特別な空間で体験する、そんな音楽祭を目指しています。 長いパンデミックの間に日常化してしまったメタバースの世界から外に出て、全身の感覚を震わせるような生の音楽体験をすることで、人間らしさを取り戻す機会を創出します。
KYOTOPHONIE is a Borderless Music Festival that offers a wide diversity of genres, from world music, jazz, electro to classic and many more. It crosses styles, programs and modes of presentation through interpretations and collaborations. The Spring sessions bring people together to experience music not commonly available ‘live’ in Japan. In most cases, the musicians will perform in formats crafted especially for the Kyoto audience and venues - some developing premier pieces to be shown first in KYOTOPHONIE and only accessed in Kyoto. Locations include temples dating back to the Muromachi period, modern spaces, immaculate gardens, iconic Kyoto Clubs, and more to be announced.
